Amanda Seyfried has crushed the hopes of Mamma Mia! fans all over the world, but also managed to leave the door open to a possible return as Sophie...

The Mean Girls star, recently seen in Hulu's The Dropout, has addressed whether a third ABBA musical is on the cards.

Disappointingly, the answer is no, though Seyfried would love to reprise the role of Sophie in a future sequel.

"I hope we do another one, but you know, no one's talking to me," the actress told Variety.

"I know if you ask any of the others they'll be like, 'Sure, but it's not going to happen.'

"But then that's what we said about the second one, and it was better than the first one! It's just so fun, even though people were like, 'Oh, is Mamma Mia 2 going to be, like, The King Kong Song?'"

Seyfried also gushed about getting to work with the cast again on the first sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

"I mean, what a stroke of luck to be in that. I'm just in love with those people," she said.

"It was like, I'm a grown up now! I was 21 when I first worked with them, so to work with them as an adult and have them see that, it was beautiful."

While another movie might not be a real possibility at present, Seyfried knows that Cher – who appeared in Here We Go Again – would be "all over the third one".

Alongside Seyfried and Cher, the sequel features returning stars Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Dominic Cooper, Christine Baranski and Julie Walters, as well as new additions Andy Garcia and Lily James.
