Malmo shooting: Three dead after gunman opens fire on crowd celebrating World Cup win in Sweden

Three men have died after a gunman opened fire on a crowd celebrating Sweden’s World Cup against South Korea in Malmo.

Police in Sweden’s third-largest city said that two of the men – aged 18 and 29 – died as a result of their injuries overnight.

A third man, in his 30s, has also died, hospital authorities confirmed this morning.

Three others were injured – one seriously – in the incident, which police have described as a drive-by shooting.

Witnesses told Swedish media that the men were shot as they left an internet cafe in the south-eastern part of the southern city on Monday evening.

Jonatan Burhoff told Aftonbladet that he saw wounded people being carried to private cars that drove off ‘as fast as possible’.

Ssecurity at a hospital was stepped up after the gunfire was reported but police said that ‘there is no reason for the public to worry’.

Investigators say a dozen shots were fired, but feuds between criminal gangs fighting over territory have become more common in major Swedish cities in recent years.

The shots caused bystanders to scream, but police quickly said there was no reason for the public to worry.

No arrests have been made and police are looking for a dark vehicle.
