Make-up from Claire's tests positive for asbestos
To most, Claire’s is the place where you got your first ear piercing. But for many parents, the store is the place to go to for fun and affordable make-up for their little ones.
One American mum was a little suspicious of the make-up she’d bought for her six-year-old daughter, deciding to send it to an independent lab for testing.
Kristi Warner was shocked to find that the lab results came back positive for tremolite asbestos. The toxic substance can cause a form of cancer – malignant mesothelioma – if inhaled.
I physically sank,” she told her local radio station WJAR. “I ended up sitting on the ground, just trying to wrap my head around how something like that could end up in our home.”
JUST IN: Claire’s is pulling more than a dozen products from stores after a Barrington family finds ASBESTOS in their 6-year-old daughter’s makeup.

Wanting to see if more products from Claire’s were potentially dangerous, Warner bought 17 more make-up products from several different Claire’s locations.
Every single one tested positive for asbestos, according to results from the Scientific Analytical Institute.
Claire’s has now pulled the items from their shelves, saying in a statement on Facebook: “At Claire’s the safety of our customers is of paramount importance, and we are passionate about the safety and integrity of our products. We work closely with our vendors to ensure our products are tested and assessed in line with the relevant country regulations and guidelines.”
“As a result of today’s inquiry from WJAR-TV, we have taken the precautionary measure of pulling the items in question from sale, and will be conducting an immediate investigation into the alleged issues. Once we have more information and have the results of the investigation we will take the necessary action.”
If you have concerns about any products that you own, Claire’s has listed the affected items here.
