Madonna's Son David Banda Wears an Updated Version of Her Iconic '90s Adidas Dress

Madonna and her adopted son, David Banda, showed up to the WBA World Lightweight Championship in style, at Barclays Center on Saturday, May 28. Embracing an on-theme silhouette for the occasion, Banda wore a sporty low-cut red-and-white maxi dress with Adidas's signature stripes lining the bodice and sleeves. Interestingly, the design was first unveiled on the Gucci fall 2022 catwalk, a show that marked the debut of a buzzy collaboration between the two powerhouses during Milan Fashion Week. And it also pays homage to a memorable red-and-white cotton Adidas dress his mother wore in 1993, when she posed alongside comedian Rosie O'Donnell at the premiere party of the film "Sleepless in Seattle."

Madonna's own garment featured a deeper plunging neckline and a high slit on the left (Banda's slit is positioned on the right), but fans were quick to point out the nostalgic fashion connection, which Gucci described as a "past-meets-present moment" in an Instagram post: "The archival original was part of an official collaboration between the sportswear brand and Laura Whitcomb of Label NYC and re-envisioned by Alessandro Michele within his Exquisite Gucci collection."

Banda's outfit saluted his mother's iconic moment in Adidas, which she had finished with red suede Puma sneakers. Meanwhile, Banda gave his own look a contemporary spin with Balenciaga's speed recycle knit sneakers in black and white, layers of gold necklaces and silver bracelets, a retro pair of yellow sunglasses with blue tinted lenses, and a black shoulder bag with graphic letters.

Madonna, who also attended the game and documented the night out on her Instagram page, wore a black-and-white Adidas track jacket and pants, accessorized with layers of silver necklaces and pink sunglasses.

Ahead, relive the stylish family outing and reminisce about the fashion throwback, then recreate the duo's looks with similar pieces.
