Last year, show creator Ryan Murphy teased the theme for the next instalment of American Horror Story and we were immediately hooked. The first-look picture showed a pair of hands that appear to be trying to get out of the ocean, prompting fans to speculate that season 10 was going to be set by the sea.

"Things are beginning to wash up on shore...," it was captioned. The teaser came not long after Murphy revealed Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin had joined the cast of season 10. The show will also see the return of the OGs, including Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates and Lily Rabe. Leslie Grossman, Angelica Ross and Finn Wittrock will round out the cast. Here's everything else we know about American Horror Story season 10:

What is the title of American Horror Story season 10?

Murphy took to Twitter in March to share a huge update about American Horror Story season 10. In true AHS fashion, the theme was revealed in a seriously spooky video. Against a black sandy backdrop, announcements flashed up on screen: “Two horrifying stories… one season. One by the sea… one by the sand.”

In an Instagram comment, Murphy went on to explain that Double Feature will actually be two seasons airing in one calendar year with two completely different casts. "It means TWO SEASONS for the fans airing in one calendar year! So double the viewing pleasure," he wrote. "One set by the sea (this cast already announced). A second by the sand (that cast announcement coming."

Two for the price of one? We like!

The announcement sent AHS fans wild, and more guesses as to what the themes might be started to circulate online.

What do we know about American Horror Story season 10 plot?

Fans first started to speculate about one of the themes last year when Murphy shared a poster tagged Provincetown, Massachusetts, which showed a gaping mouth with pointy fangs. "I'm calling it now - Google 'the black fish' Provincetown Mass, you're welcome," one fan wrote.

Naturally, we did some Googling and it's about a 'bizarre entity' or 'tall creature' that lurked around the eerie seaside town of Provincetown and was mostly seen by children. A post Murphy shared on Instagram in March appeared to confirm that theory:

Who will star in American Horror Story season 10?

As mentioned above, Murphy has brought back all the fan favourite actors for the upcoming series set by the sea. Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Adina Porter, Lily Rabe, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman, Angelica Ross and Finn Wittrock will all be starring in season 10. And Macaulay Culkin will of course be making his AHS debut.

Plus, Murphy recently announced the exciting news that model Kaia Gerber will be joining the cast for season 10. In a post he shared on Instagram he wrote, "Very excited to announce that Kaia Gerber is joining the American Horror Story family."

In February 2021, Murphy confirmed another major American Horror Story veteran would also be returning for this season - Frances Conroy. Responding to a fan on Instagram, the shared: "I can confirm our beloved Frannie is indeed in this season." Conroy appeared in Apocalypse and Murder House.

Is anyone missing from the line-up? We know Emma Roberts and Cody Fern won't be appearing in the series.

The saddest news about American Horror Story S10 is that it may be Sarah Paulson's last appearance in the horror anthology series. Speaking during an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Paulson revealed that this season will probably be her last on the show, and explained why she's ready to make the move.

When asked what her next collaboration with director Ryan Murphy would be, she replied, "I don't know. It's the first time in about three years where I don't know."

She continued, "I think this is my last season of Horror Story, probably. I mean, I don’t know. Every time [Murphy] comes to me with some whack-a-doodle character, I tend to be like, 'Yes, let's do it!' I don't know, this is the first time. So we'll see."

We are weeping, absolutely weeping.

When will American Horror Story season 10 be released?

There hasn't been any official confirmation yet, but American Horror Story only started production in October so we've got a while to wait. In August, Ryan Murphy told fans: "Looks like American Horror Story Season 10 is go for an October (fitting) production launch. Thanks to everyone who is working hard to assure a safe start for the cast and crew. And yes this is a clue.” Once it finally lands on Fox, it traditionally drops on Netflix a year later.
