M&S unveils chic and budget-friendly stoma knickers in their latest launch
Approximately 200,000 people across the UK live with stomas, and finding comfortable underwear that not only feels comfortable and supportive but looks good too - is a mighty task.
So when we spotted this new launch from high street retailer M&S, we knew this was going to be a game-changer.
A stoma is a surgically created opening on the body’s surface that reroutes waste when the usual pathways are compromised. It can divert waste through an opening—usually from the intestines or bladder—into an external bag for collection. While it requires careful management, a stoma can be life-changing for those needing an alternative way to eliminate waste due to illness or surgery.
But it also means that the everyday knickers you pick up from your fave lingerie brand may not be able to deliver the support needed for those with stomas.
In fact, M&S employee, Jiggy Sohi, was the force behind the launch having lived with a stoma herself and submitting the suggestion for consideration.
'I knew that being part of the M&S family, I had the opportunity to help make a change which would empower women to feel more confident, more beautiful and more included' she said.
That's why Marks & Spencer, alongside the support of Colostomy UK, set out to create an affordable alternative to scouring the pages of the 'net for those in the search.
Working with a group of 20 women they tested, trialled and put these knickers through the ringer to ensure the final product could stand up to the task.
The range comprises of two styles of underwear with lace options for when you're feeling fancy, and are made from soft and comfortable cotton with control stretch in a range of colourways. The underwear expertly pairs with the brand's best-selling bra lineup for the perfect matching set.
