I’m A Celebrity 2019: What are the celebrities allowed to take into the jungle?
Anticipation for the new series of I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! has reached a high following the announcement of this year’s star-studded line-up.
Celebrities including television personality Caitlyn Jenner, Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts and former rugby union player James Haskell will face their fears in a bid to be crowned the next King or Queen of the Jungle.
Starting on Sunday 17 November on ITV, the programme will follow the contestants as they learn to cohabit and make do without everyday home comforts.
Viewers may be under the impression they are secretly allowed to bring lots of clothes or cosmetic products, but there are certain rules celebrities must follow when packing for Australia.
Clothes
ITV states that competitors on the show are only allowed to bring three sets of underwear and three items of swimwear with them.
Considering that those in it for the long haul may spend up to three weeks in the jungle, this means the stars are likely to do a lot of laundry during their stay.
They are all required to wear matching uniforms, which consist of red trousers or shorts, red socks, black boots, black T-shirts, khaki shirts, red fleeces and khaki hats.
Luxury items
The celebrities are also allowed to choose one luxury item for their stay.
Previous examples of luxury items have included things such as special pillows or photographs of loved ones.
The competitors may not have access to their luxury items right away, as they may be required to win them during a trial in the jungle, as has been the case in previous years.
Everyday essentials
After becoming the second contestant to leave the show in 2016, television and radio presenter Lisa Snowdon revealed the everyday essentials she and her campmates were given.
Snowdon outlined that they were each given a generic body lotion, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, a toothbrush, tea tree toothpaste, deodorant, a shaving stick and a razor.
Make-up
Another regulation stipulated on I’m a Celebrity is a no make-up rule.
When informed of this rule in an interview conducted for the show’s line-up announcement video, Jenner stated: “We don’t get hair and make-up? Oh my god.”
In 2017, reality star Georgia Toffolo, who won the series, revealed she was given special dispensation to wear make-up by the show’s producers due to a skin condition.
“I’ve been to the doctors so much over the years. It’s a medical problem and I’ve been on strong tablets for six months trying to get rid of them,” she told The Sun.
“So show bosses agreed that, because it was a medical problem, I was allowed to put foundation on once a day in the morning.”
Cigarettes
Celebrities who take part in I’m a Celebrity are allowed to smoke, an ITV spokesperson told Express.co.uk in 2018.
The spokesperson explained that they “have to smoke near the campfire and then put stubs out in the fire”.
