Hollyoaks’ Lysette Anthony has criticised the Channel 4 soap following the death of her character.

The actor’s alter ego Marnie was killed off this week.

Anthony, 58, posted a long message on Instagram criticising the soap and claiming that she has endured “18 months of humiliation, of Hell”.

“Gagged, silenced, suspended, fined... oh do I have a story to tell,” she told her 75,000 followers.

“Ask yourselves this. Why oh why have @hollyoaksofficial EXTENDED my contract a few weeks back until the end of February..? RIP Marnie..etc.. boo hoo.. ??”

Anthony also criticised the show’s production company Lime Pictures, saying “you’re a TV production company not Tin-Pot Dictatorship”.

“Clear up your s***, then form an orderly line and APOLOGISE.. to myself and my son,” she said, saying that what they have been through “beggars belief”.

Anthony — who had been in the programme since 2016 — said that she had been warned that by speaking out she may never work in TV again.

But she added: “Ok. Fine. I am retiring. Go f*** yourselves.. my days of abuse are OVER. SHAME ON YOU.”

Her words were posted with a screenshot of a story about a race row on the soap in 2020.

At the time, Black actor Rachel Adedeji announced she was leaving Hollyoaks.

It came after she publicly criticised the show’s response to the Black Lives Matter movement as she said she and other black cast members had been subject to racial micro-aggressions behind the scenes.
