After hearing how Lupita Nyong'o prepared for Wakanda Forever, it's safe to say she went to some extreme lengths getting in the right mindset for the Marvel sequel.

The 39-year-old is back as Nakia, and she told Jimmy Fallon in a *spoiler free* chat that she had to hit the pool to get prepared for some very exciting underwater scenes.

She recalled that when director Ryan Coogler initially asked her about her swimming abilities, she gave herself a skill level of just four, and admitted she 'would swim like a panicked puppy'.

With the addition of regular swimming in to her regime, she was soon feeling much more confident. But her pool prep didn't stop there, and she told Jimmy that she also embraced EPT, or Extreme Performance Training.

Lupita said: 'It's learning how to improve your breath capacity by performing tasks underwater, so I would carry these weights and walk on the floor of a pool. It's all about overriding your panic button, because you have about two minutes of air inside you, of oxygen inside you, so when you panic you still have two minutes to live. It's about trying to prolong that panic so that you can do more underwater.'

This, she added, didn't just prepare her for some watery action scenes, but has given her a sense of zen and calm in her daily life - on dry land.

Lupita often treats her Instagram followers to clips of her working out in the gym. Last year she shared two of the exercises she uses to tone and sculpt her killer arms. Firstly a set (12-15 reps) of tricep pushdowns followed by a similar set of dumb-bell lateral raises.
