Lupita Nyong'o felt like she was "floating" when she stepped out in a gorgeous gown at the 2014 Academy Awards.

The actress cemented her status as a style star when she walked the red carpet in a pale blue Prada dress with a flowing skirt, and during the ceremony, won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in 12 Years a Slave.

Reflecting on the memorable look in a video for Vogue's Life in Looks series, Lupita recalled how she told her stylist, Micaela Erlanger, she wanted to feel as if she was "floating" in the look.

"That's how I felt at that time. I couldn't believe I was going to be attending the Academy Awards. You can see it has specks of silver (in the fabric). It just feels effervescent," she recounted, adding: "How you move in a gown is almost as important as how you look in it."

Elsewhere in the clip, Lupita looked back at some of her other key fashion moments, including the Chanel dress she sported for her second Vogue cover and the red Ralph Lauren cape she selected for her debut at the Golden Globes in 2014.

"I loved it, it was just so bold with the cape," the 39-year-old continued. "Vogue was actually trying to get this gown for the cover. It was either going to be in Vogue or on my body."
