Lucy Liu quickly grew tired of constantly dyeing hair during blonde phase

Lucy Liu quickly grew tired of making regular trips to the salon for touch-ups during her blonde phase.

The Charlie's Angels actress stunned fans when she switched her signature brunette locks for a bright blonde shade back in May 2018.

But while Lucy enjoyed having lighter stands for a period of time, she found the maintenance required to be far too time consuming.

"When I was younger, my mother would cut all of my hair off... I had no hair. So when I had the opportunity to grow my hair out, I just let it grow, never cut it. I just got so sick of my hair," she shared in a video for Women's Health. "I had been thinking for a long time about dyeing my hair blonde. So, I just went for it. I decided, 'I'm going to go for this!' I did it and I loved it. But as it was growing out, you have to maintain it because you have to bleach the top. You have to keep the colour the same as you are filming and that continuity became an issue."

And while Lucy has returned to her natural shade, she noted that her strands have never really recovered from all the products she was using as a blonde.

"As it grows out, because it's blonde, it becomes really frizzy. Which I was not used to. I was always used to a straight texture. So, then I went back to dark. But it still has signs of being blonde because it's a bit frizzy when it's drying," the 52-year-old added. "I really liked being blonde but I didn't realise how much maintenance was involved. I think it was really fun. If my hair wasn't dark, I would do it more often. But right now, simplicity is key."
