Lucy Hale says she was "mortified" in audition for Fifty Shades of Grey

From Cosmopolitan

Actor Lucy Hale has spoken about auditioning for the role of Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey saying that she was "mortified".

She spoke about the audition in an interview with The Associated Press, saying, "I was very young... It had to have been, well not 10 years ago, but it was a while ago, and I was mortified," she said.

The Pretty Little Liars actor said that although the audition "wasn't actual scenes from the movie," she did have to deliver a "very sexually forward monologue."

She continued, "I didn't really even know what I was saying in the audition... I was a little naive about it all."

But Hale did also say that the audition was beneficial for her, "It was good for me because it scared the crap out of me to do an audition [like that]," she said.

Hale is one of many big-name actors who were linked to the film, including Felicity Jones, Imogen Poots, Ashley Benson and Kristen Stewart. The role of Anastasia eventually went to Dakota Johnson, who would go on to do three films in the franchise, Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed.

Hale has previously spoken about the audition scene to MTV News, detailing the specifics of the monologue she said, "The scene was the girl telling her friends about some 'sexcapade' she had, but it goes into extreme detail and uses the word 'sperm' a couple times."

She explained, "I was like, 'I don't know guys, I have to go home to my grandparent's house in a few months at Christmas, I don't know if I can do this.'"
