Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague has been forced to defend her fan giveaway after some entrants branded it unfair. To celebrate achieving one million YouTube subscribers, Molly purchased £8,000 worth of products (no sponsors), including six Louis Vuitton bags, Apple gifts and a year's supply of her fake tan range.
To enter the competition, followers had to like the Instagram post and tag a friend in the comment section, subscribe to Molly-Mae’s YouTube channel and also follow @mollymaehague and her tanning range @filterbymollymae on Instagram.
On Monday, Molly finally announced the winner after revealing she and her management team had spent the past week working out how to whittle the two million plus names down. She revealed they'd managed to get it down to 25 names, which were then added to a random generator and a winner was chosen.
However, some fans didn't think the process was fair, with one writing on Twitter, "I can’t believe she’s done this. Literally over 3 million people entered and she chooses 25 names? Like, just no!"
Another wrote, "Is it just or me or was the Molly Mae giveaway kinda unfair? Cause she said to enter the giveaway do this and that which 2mil+ did but she only used the random generator on 25 ppl so only they had a chance of winning tbh.. I don’t think this was executed very well."
And a third asked, "How do you get 2mil+ comments on the Molly Mae giveaway but then only do the number generator on 25 people??? How is that fair."
Of course, the majority of her followers couldn't understand why she was being criticised after forking out £8,000 of her own money for the giveaway.
"Really baffles me how salty some people are about loosing @mollymaehague giveaway," wrote another. "1. She did what most celebs would never do and we should appreciate her for that 2. Be happy for someone else, it really isn’t that hard."
"What else could she have done?" someone else asked. "She said there was no software! Leave her alone!"
After catching wind of the comments, Molly-Mae jumped on her Instagram Stories and told her fans to "just be happy for the winner".
"For people saying that 25 names in a generator isn't fair... we literally spent all well brainstorming the best way to pick. There was no software or app that would allow me to put in two million IG comments without logging in with my insta password which I would never ever do. Why am I scrolling through the all the tweets about molly mae and seeing people mad that she only picked from 25 people ... like she still picked those 25 from the 2 million it’s literally not unfair lol? Let's just all be happy for the winner please. It's only a light hearted giveaway. The 25 names had all entered more than one... including the winner. Let's be happy for her! She deserves it."
What she said.
