Love Island's Dr Alex George has announced a major career change as he leaves his role in A&E after five years. The former Islander, who appeared on the show in 2018 alongside the likes of Dani Dyer and Wes Nelson, told his 1.5 million Instagram fans that he was going to leave his current job behind to start a "fresh chapter".

"CAREER UPDATE: I am leaving A&E! I have had the most incredible five years in the Emergency Department but it’s nearly time for me to move on," he shared. "It won’t be easy but next summer I will be starting a fresh chapter. I am embarking on a new career within the medical field and am excited to have you all on this journey with me."

Over on his YouTube channel, he revealed he would be training as a GP as he went into more detail about the big move.

"I have loved working in Lewisham A&E for the last 5 years and learnt so much," he added.

"However at some point we all have to move on and I am excited to start a new chapter."

Dr Alex, who got his medical degree in 2015, explained the new role would give him more flexibility to concentrate on his Waiting Room podcast as well as uploading videos to YouTube.

Good luck on the move, Dr Alex!
