Love Islander Amber Gill, who appeared on the 2019 series, has opened up about feeling like she was ‘hated’ after making a comment about the age gap between her and another contestant.

Speaking on the Glad We Had This Chat With Caroline Hirons podcast, Amber revealed she was labelled a ‘b***h’ after said that Callum Macleod was too old for her. At the time Amber was 21, and Callum was 28.

As they were getting to know each other on their first day, Callum told Amber he was 28, to which she replied: 'Ah, so you are old then.'

During the podcast, Amber said: “So in the first week, I think I was the most hated person in Britain at the time. I was the most hated because I told some guy that he didn't suit the sunglasses he had on and everyone was like, she's such a b***h. And I'm like, well, he didn't.

“What do you want us to say? He did. He looked horrible. Oh, and then I was 21 and he was 28. And I said, God, that's a bit old for me - it was a bit old at the time for me. And apparently, I was a b***h for that.”

Callum and Amber were coupled up in the first week of the show but he was then dumped on day five when she coupled up with Anton Danyluk.

Amber went on to win the show with Greg O’Shea - but they split just five weeks after winning the show.

Although Amber has since appeared on shows like Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, she also opened up about feeling ‘done’ with TV and claimed it was ‘repetitive’.

In 2022, Amber began dating Arsenal star Jen Beattie, but the pair split last year. Amber spoke with OK! in 2023 about her decision to come out - saying she hoped it would give others the courage to follow suit.

“That’s another important thing for me. I think coming from a show that I came from, people weren’t expecting it. It’s taken a little while for people to get used to it.”

Asked about whether she had always felt curious about her sexuality, Amber responded: “I don’t know. I’m still figuring that out – whether I did or I didn’t, I just know there was a certain point where I was like, 'I want to pursue serious relationships with women.' I’m still figuring it all out, so I might do some sort of TV or documentary around that, because I think it is important for someone to have a story of someone coming out late as well.”
