Love Island is back and with it the kind of sheer chaos that only occurs on Twitter when a. bunch of hot single people are trapped in a villa together for two months. Aside from the memes, the iconic moments and the gossip, one thing that always seems to happen when Love Island season rolls around, is the complaints. As of this week we have our first controversial moment, which fuelled more than 200 complaints to Ofcom.

A lot has been said already about the age gap between Gemma Owen and her first date of the season Davide Sanclimenti. Their flirtations have sparked a lot of online debate about whether the eight year age-gap is too extreme, with some speculating that the fact that Gemma is 19 while Davide is in his late twenties is the main issue.

It's something the pair have discussed themselves, with Davide asking Gemma earlier this week, "What do you think about the fact that I am much older than you? I mean, you are not bothered by that?"

Gemma responded, "No, it's not an issue for me at all. I feel like if it was I wouldn't have wanted to get to know you in the first place. And, as I've said, I have been speaking to guys and seeing guys that are much older. It's not something that I’m not used to or that you’re the only one or anything like that, it's very normal for me."

However, this didn't seem to help the situation as following the pair's first kiss in an early episode viewers hit Ofcom with more than 200 complaints.

About a week after the scene first aired the organisation released figures detailing that it got 167 complaints for the episode in which the scene took place, and a further 93 complaints for the following episode, also in relation to the relationship between Gemma and Davide.

Love Island is on at ITV2 at 9pm every weeknight.
