Is Love Island history repeating itself with Chloe and Toby?

There must be a time machine in the Love Island villa, 'cause history sure is repeating itself. After Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran shared an unexpected kiss on the terrace in last night's episode, fans can't stop pointing out how the moment was kind of (read: exactly) like Megan Barton Hanson and Wes Nelson's moment on the 2018 series.

ICYMI, on last night's episode Chloe chose Toby for a snog in the Line of Booty challenge. Understandably, Kaz (who Toby has been coupled up with since episode one) wasn't too impressed by the move. Later in the evening, Toby pulls Kaz for a chat and tells her he wants to get to know Chloe. Fast forward 30 seconds and Chloe and Toby are tongue deep in each other's faces.

Yep, things in the villa really do move that quick.

Now, let's rewind to 2018 to get some context here. Wes and Laura Anderson were coupled up from day one of the series. And, after telling her that he was "falling for her", they share a night in the Hideaway and the infamous Doing Bits Society is born.

But just a couple of days later, Megan kisses Wes in front of Laura during a challenge. In the evening, Megan literally begs Wes to kiss her and although he doesn't, he does admit he fancies her. Wes then splits with Laura, and the whole villa (and the UK) were shocked when he had sex with Megan on the very same day. See, things really do move that fast in the villa.

It's no surprise then that viewers took to Twitter to comment on the similarities between the couples. "Did we just rewatch this scene?" tweeted one viewer along with a photo of Megan and Wes, "Chloe fancying Toby legit came out of nowhere lol…just like Megan and Wes" said another.

More viewers shared photos of Megan and Wes with similar captions. "Chloe and Toby are these two all over again," tweeted one fan, while another said "Chloe: Toby said he’s happy with Kaz… But could he be happier…"

"Chloe and Toby remind me of nothing else other than these two," added another.

Despite the err, rocky start to their relationship, Megan and Wes actually made it to the end of the show and lasted for five months outside of the villa. Whether or not Chloe and Toby follow in their footsteps, we'll have to wait and see.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
