With the new winter season of reality TV show Love Island expected to hit our screens in January, it feels like only yesterday we were transfixed to our TV screens and engrossed in the romantic fate of the love-torn islanders.

But there’s some good news for fans - three Love Island contestants, winner Amber Gill, Anna Vakili and Yewande Biala, are reunited on Yahoo UK’s new podcast Reality Check.

Reflecting on their time on the cult TV show, the girls use their unique life experiences and strong brand of female friendship to answer listener dilemmas on a range of topics - and first up is love and relationships.

Anna, 29, admitted: “I mean everyone liked Lucy when we first walked in, literally…and it knocks your confidence big time.”

Love Island winner Amber, 22, said: “It was mad, it was totally mad. I’ve never experienced anything like that before where everybody that I like would like the same kind of girl and not one person would go for you.”

Anna added: “I walked in that villa so confident…I’m confident, I’m hot, it’s good to be like that. But when I walked out of there, I just did not feel the same at all.”

In terms of moving on from these feelings, the girls reminded each other of the importance of loving yourself and cherishing your friends – and that you don’t actually need a man to be happy.

Scientist Yewande, 25, said: “You need to find yourself attractive by loving yourself, then you’re going to attract people.

“I actually think confidence is the sexiest thing. If you’re confident, you come across super sexy. If you don’t respect yourself, and love yourself, other people won’t either.”

Finally, Amber added: “You set the standard.”

In the rest of the episode, Amber sets the record straight on romantic rumours, the girls discuss the pressures facing guys to seem manly in relationships, and much more.
