Louisville's Scott Satterfield says he's not going to South Carolina after conversation with Gamecocks
Louisville coach Scott Satterfield is staying with the Cardinals.
Satterfield told the Louisville Courier-Journal on Saturday that he had “no intention” of leaving the school. His comments come after reports that Satterfield spoke with South Carolina about the school’s open head coaching position and 11 days after Satterfield took to Twitter to say that he wasn’t pursuing another job.
Satterfield’s statement on Nov. 24 seemed to put the idea of his Louisville departure to bed. He said in that statement that “I am the head coach at the University of Louisville” and that he had not pursued or sought out any job offers.

Why Satterfield said he talked to South Carolina
That statement apparently didn’t deter South Carolina. Satterfield confirmed to the Courier-Journal that he did speak with school officials about the Gamecocks’ job. Why? Because his parents live close to the school.
Satterfield confirmed that he spoke to South Carolina on Friday, but he described it as a “conversation,” not an interview. Being from North Carolina, with his parents just two hours away from the University of South Carolina’s campus, Satterfield said he felt an obligation to at least listen to what they had to say.
Satterfield is currently in his second season at Louisville after coming from Appalachian State. He was hired to replace Bobby Petrino and the team went 8-5 in 2019 after a 2-10 season in Petrino’s final year. The Cardinals have regressed in 2020 and are 3-7 with one game remaining.
South Carolina is looking for a head coach after firing Will Muschamp in November. Former Colorado State coach Mike Bobo is the team’s interim coach and the Gamecocks’ season concludes on Saturday with a game against Kentucky.
Outside of Satterfield, other names publicly mentioned for the South Carolina job include Louisiana coach Billy Napier and Georgia assistant Shane Beamer.
