Louise Trotter named creative director at Bottega Veneta
Just as quickly as it was announced this afternoon that Louise Trotter would be stepping down from her role as creative director of Carven, Bottega Veneta has revealed that the designer has been appointed to head up the creative direction of its house. Trotter – who won critical acclaim for her four collections at Carven – will take over from
Matthieu Blazy.
"I am deeply honoured to join Bottega Veneta as creative director," Trotter said in a statement today. "The house’s storied legacy of artistry and innovation is truly inspiring, and I am excited to contribute to its future and celebrate its timeless vision."
Trotter will begin her role next month, in January 2025, as Blazy steps down after three years at the house. Before Carven, Trotter worked as creative director of both Lacoste and Joseph, while she also had stints at Calvin Klein, Whistles and Jigsaw in her early career.
"I am pleased to welcome Louise as our new creative director," said CEO Leo Rongone. "Her aesthetic seamlessly combines exquisite design with sublime craft and her commitment to cultural advocacy aligns beautifully with our brand vision. Through her sophisticated lens, Bottega Veneta will continue to celebrate its heritage while preserving modern relevance. I also want to express my profound appreciation for Matthieu, who has been an extraordinary partner in infusing our brand with desirability, emotional resonance, and intellectual identity."
This news follows another huge designer announcement yesterday which saw John Galliano stepping down from Maison Margiela after 10 years at the helm. He, Hedi Slimane and now Matthieu Blazy will all likely be heading to major fashion houses, so expect a number of big announcements in the coming weeks.
