Louise Thompson may get 'Barbie butt' op as part of Chrohn's treatment
Louise Thompson has opened up about her future health procedures on her podcast, He Said She Said.
The Lucky author and Made In Chelsea star has been battling with Chron's disease and was fitted with a stoma bag last year, where the end of the large intestine or small intestine is connected to a stoma bag to collect waste.
In December, Louise was rushed into the hospital for emergency surgery after experiencing abdominal pain, before suffering from sepsis, which she has now recovered from.
On the podcast she shares with her fiancé Ryan Libbey, Louise said that she was feeling 'in a better spot' ahead of future surgeries, explaining that the next step in her treatment is to choose between 'reversal surgery' and a 'Barbie butt' procedure.
'Both of those are great options,' she said.
Louise further explained both of the options for Ryan and the listeners. 'A Barbie butt is where they remove anything that's left from that bottom area. So my remaining rectal stump and a little bit of large intestine. And then they'll just sew up the bottom. So there's just a void there.
'I believe I will still have a bumhole. I thought [I wouldn't] because with a Barbie, the whole thing is just like a smooth section, just a smooth crack. [...] But no, I'll still have a bum crack. It's isn't like my whole bum cheeks will stop being there. I imagine it will still look like I've got a bum,' says Louise.
Ryan added: 'Aesthetically, it will look the same. It's just not actually functioning at all like it used to.' With this option, she will still use the stoma bag.
The J-pouch is an option, which will remove the need for her stoma, Louise says, 'That's where they bring the small intestine down and then they loop it back up,' she explained.
The pouch is then attached to the anus so waste can be stored and emptied by the body.
While Louise is still making up her mind about the best treatment for her, she's feeling positive. 'The position I'm in now just fills me with so much confidence because if I can go into that operation planning it, taking a day bag in and knowing that I'm going to be put to sleep and going into something having done a bit of research, that's such a different place to the sort of smash and grabs that I'm used to,' she said.
Whatever option she chooses, we're sending good wishes and a speedy recovery.
