Louise Redknapp has opened up about her divorce from ex-husband Jamie, calling it "the toughest thing" she's experienced as well as speaking about their co-parenting life now.

Louise and Jamie were married in 1998 and went on to have two boys together - Charley and Beau. After 19 years of marriage, they separated and divorced in 2017.

Appearing on the Lorraine show, Louise spoke candidly about the split, and how difficult it was at the time.

“It’s the toughest thing anyone will ever go through. It’s the toughest thing I’ve ever experienced in my life. Every day is a new challenge with it but, yeah, I have to say, the boys are our priority and moving forward like that is all we can do," she said.

Speaking about co-parenting with Jamie, she said: “He is a fabulous dad, I’m really lucky. I’m actually able to do the job I do because he’s so happy to share everything with me which, I know, I have friends who don’t have that. So I’m really lucky like that. He’s hands on. He’s great.”

Louise is open about the fact that she put her music career on hold to focus on being a mum, and is now relishing her return to the job she loves.

“It’s been lovely to have a passion and actually to be able to do it. For so many years, being a mum and being at home you feel so guilty for actually doing what you want to do," she said.

"It’s kind of nice that I’m guilt free doing this. I’m enjoying it, the kids are happy. I’ve loved music all my life so to go back into it, it fits like a glove.

“My boys see me excited about something I love to do which gives them such a positive outlook… for a long time, I feel like I missed out on that… we shouldn’t be scared to try and do it.”

Lorraine airs on ITV weekdays from 9am.
