Louis Vuitton's Tambour Horizon Light Up is the French maison’s third-generation connected watch to hit today's market. The smartwatch will be powered by a custom-designed operating system that is said to be the first non-Apple OS certified as "made for iPhone." Good news for Android users, the smartwatch is also compatible with Android and HarmonyOS devices. Internal hardware includes the lightning-quick Snapdragon Wear 4100 processor.
Thanks to the kind folks at Louis Vuitton, I took the smartwatch out to town for a day, just to have a feel of it. And boy, did heads turn.
Pretty facade, seamless movements
At first glance, the 44mm watch features a smooth sapphire glass, complete with 24 LED lights that glimmer with each wrist movement. The dial carries the Louis Vuitton monogram that is synonym with the brand's iconic trademark.
The pastel leather straps are fixed on with just a small click – easy to remove if I'm looking to change out and head to the gym.
To operate the digital touch screen, there are a few methods of swiping to bring out its functions. When swiping right, you'll be able to check out 'My Day', which showcases your heart rate and step count, as well as your day agenda. If you swipe down, there is a control panel that pulls out alarms, music and timers. When swiping left, the smartwatch showcases your boarding details for your flights and curated city guides from the maison.
To access all of your data, go through the Louis Vuitton Connect app, a companion application for their range of connected devices, including the Louis Vuitton Horizon Light Up Speaker and Louis Vuitton earbuds. Through the app, wearers will be able to tap into diverse customisation tools, from watch faces and system colour personalisation, to the selection of functions active on the watch. I opted for Vivienne, the maison's mascot as my watch face and it is a delight to see her pop on my screen. I must say, the colours are vivid and it is great to view all the important details on screen.
What's also great is that the smartwatch is water-resistant to 30 metres and is also equipped with an all-day battery, with four modes developed to suit different needs and usage.
What we think of it
I usually like my smartwatches light, but you'll notice the weight of the Tambour Horizon Light Up smartwatch once you put it on. Interestingly, for users in China, you can even link up your Alipay details for a contactless payment through NFC. I'd like to see this contactless option for us here, so I can use the smartwatch for my bus and MRT rides without having to use my EZLink card.
All in all, I can see why die-hard fans will resonate with the luxury smartwatch as it's undeniably extravagant and it's designed to shine, with a hefty starting price tag of S$4,855. It is, after all, a Louis Vuitton smartwatch...
The Tambour Horizon Light Up smartwatch will be available in three case materials: polished stainless steel and matte black or brown steel with PVD coatings.
Head to Louis Vuitton Ion Orchard to check out the Tambour Horizon Light Up Pop-In showcase from now until 28 January. No registration is required.
