Ruth Langsford opened up about the possibility of parting ways with Eamonn Holmes long before their unexpected divorce news hit the headlines, as seen in a resurfaced This Morning clip. The once-beloved television duo, who tied the knot 14 years ago and have been a couple for 27 years, have reportedly filed for divorce.

The clip, which is from 2018, saw the then This Morning hosts engaged in a lively debate over the feasibility of maintaining friendships with ex-partners. Eamonn declared: "It is easier to stay friends."

However, Ruth appeared to disagree, telling her husband: "Why would you need to stay friends, you aren't with them anymore, you don't need to be friends. My thing is you weren't just friends, you were married or had a relationship."

This isn't the first time Ruth had discussed a possible split from Eamonn, having recently discussed it on Loose Women. On this occasion the panellists discussed infidelity and having your partner leave you for someone younger.

Ruth shared that her worst fear would actually be Eamonn leaving her for someone the same age. She explained: "See I think, people go, 'Oh, you'd hate it if you were dumped for a younger model.'

"I go, 'No, I would hate it because...' then I could do the whole cliche thing, 'Oh, Eamonn is such a cliche, he's going with a 25-year-old, how sad.' But then I think, 'No, the worst thing for me is if he went off with someone the same age'. I think that is harder than being dumped for someone younger. That's my worst fear."

Eamonn and Ruth's once-solid relationship is said to have turned rather rocky after they departed This Morning in 2020, with their careers taking them in different directions. A source told The Sun: “Eamonn and Ruth’s relationship changed when they left This Morning.

"They started moving in different directions in their careers and their priorities started to change. Eamonn was desperate to return to Belfast, which he thinks of as home, but Ruth would never move. It became a bone of contention.

"As her ITV career continued, Eamonn went down another path and they became ships in the night. For the past two years they had led separate lives, professionally and personally."

A friend of the couple has also claimed that Ruth has "become more his carer than his wife" and that his health woes had made him "thoroughly miserable". The insider also claimed that Ruth began to get the brunt of his frustrations, and that the dynamic became too much for the couple.
