The popular belief is that we should shower or bathe daily to stay clean.
So, when a television presenter revealed yesterday she showers just twice a week, a large percentage of the nation was shocked.
‘Loose Women’ panellist Saira Khan, 49, explained during yesterday’s show how her unusual shower habits emerged through treating her dry skin.
“It's only by self care that I've managed to sort my skin out and that's by showering once or twice a week.”

Fellow panellist Stacey Solomon, 29, admitted she didn’t shower daily, either, claiming a lack of time.
“I've always thought as long as you wash your important bits it's OK,” she told the panel.
“Like you can have a quick wash, sometimes I don't have time for a 15 minute shower. Also I don't think it's that good for your hair and skin and stuff.”
Defending her co-panellist, she added: “How dirty do you have to be? You'd have to not shower for days to smell bad. You can't every morning, if you miss the shower once or twice.”
Many were shocked by Khan’s irregular showering routine, saying they could never do it.
I couldn't live with someone who didn't bath or shower everyday. #LooseWomen— Sara (@DoubleTreble_) May 22, 2019
Others, with an understanding of similar skin ailments, sympathised with her approach.
I suffer with psoriasis and fuck washing everyday. My skin would be red raw so I shower about 3 times a week. #LooseWomen— ♡ J E S S I C A (@StitchMeUpBitch) May 22, 2019
Why people don’t shower every day:— Han, Solo (@hscptcrash) May 22, 2019
1. Can’t afford to
2. Physically unable
4. Financially can’t afford to
5. Doesn’t have time
7. Showering every day strips skin of oils.#LooseWomen
While Saira’s twice–weekly showers may be too infrequent for some, they’re perfectly well within NHS hygiene guidelines.
