Five men were shot in the space of seven hours as London was rocked by another night of bloodshed.

The latest violence saw gun attacks in Hackney, Brixton and Croydon while the capital sweltered in suffocating heat.

It comes at the end of London’s deadliest month of the year so far, with 15 murders recorded in July.

A police officer was also treated for head injuries after being bottled as he tried to break up an illegal rave in Shoreditch.

The first shooting took place in Brixton, south London, where armed police swarmed the Angell Town estate just before 7pm on Friday following reports of gunfire.

They found two damaged cars parked at the scene but “no trace” of a victim.

Later they were called to a south London hospital after two men self-presented with gunshot wounds. Their conditions were not immediately known.

In Hackney, east London, police were called to Mandeville Street just after 1am to reports of men fighting.

Ten minutes later officers learned that two men, aged 30 and 31, had been taken to hospital with stab and gunshot wounds.

The pair, who are not thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries, remained in hospital on Saturday.

Two suspects, in their thirties, were being quizzed today in connection with the incident.

Six miles to the south, officers were called at about 1.40am to reports of a gunshot near West Croydon station.

A man, believed to be in his twenties, was found with a gunshot wound.

He was taken to hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

There have been ten fatal in shootings in London so far this year, with eight taking place since June.

Christopher George, 26, was shot dead as he sat in a car in on Tuesday.

Video footage emerged on Friday night of crowds brawling near Shoreditch High Street station after reports of an unlicensed “block party”.

A police officer was injured as he tried to intervene. MPS Tower Hamlets tweeted: “There is a crime scene near #Shoreditch tube station, after a police officer on patrol was hit with a bottle shortly after 10pm.

“The officer is being treated at the scene by paramedics for a cut to the head and will be taken to hospital as a precaution. One man has been arrested.”
