The day is almost upon us. July 4, when our beloved hair salons will finally reopen their doors after a more than three-month hiatus due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Roots, split ends and well overgrown barnets will soon be a thing of the past - thank god it's time for a spruce.

But if you want a shot at getting an appointment even within the next few months, you'd better act fast.

London hairdressers Blue Tit, which has 10 salons dotted over the capital, says it has accrued a waitlist of more than 4,500 people, with bookings now made well into August.

Company director Matt Gebbie told PA news agency: "We opened a waiting list a few weeks ago and now have 4,500 people signed up, with bookings up to mid-August."

To cater to clients, the salon has extended its opening hours until 11pm, splitting staff into two shifts, from 7am to 11pm, seven days a week.

"We celebrated our ninth anniversary as a company during the lockdown so we can’t wait to reopen," Gebbie said.

Extra safety precautions and hygiene measures will also be in place, with customers required to wear masks, while staff will use visors.

Stylists will work to one workstation and an extra 15 minutes will be allowed in between each appointment to give clients time to pay and leave, and for equipment to be cleaned.
