With previous references to My Little Pony & the Power Puff Girls, design duo Fyodor Podgorny & Golan Frydman always bring an injection of fun & colour to London Fashion Week. Building on their collaboration with Chupa Chups for the 60th anniversary, their SS18 collection did not disappoint.

Today’s show saw futuristic California girls finding their way through a dystopian heatwave where the traditional Spring florals have disappeared, leaving melted, giant Chupa Chup wrappers in their wake.

With rainbow colours being a firm favourite at Fyodor Golan, no single colour stood out. If anything, there was more use of metallics with plenty of space-like silver bringing a modern, futuristic element to the aesthetic. A silver surfboard even appeared, partnered as an accessory to a candied orange tracksuit. The California girls are still surfing in the future, of course.

The design element reappearing throughout the collection was ruching. We saw it as a decoration on sleeves, used to gather at the waist and also used as a feature to draw length up the front of dresses, like amazing fashion blinds revealing the plastic-theme shoes beneath.

Single-side features were also strong, either revealing one gleaming shoulder, tucking on only one side or concentrating decoration to only one sleeve. Giant, sculpted earrings – a step further from this season’s statement tassels – were also worn only on one ear.

Futuristic beauty ran throughout the show, not just in the fashion but also being one of the key words for the makeup brief. Skin and eyes were silver and sheer, with gleaming highlights achieved on the eyes, cheeks and cupids bow using Maybelline Strobing Liquid.

The hair of the future was an extension of the slicked-back wet look, popular on catwalks right now. The Davines team contrasted this with dry lengths and ends using Salt Spray and a dusting of Davines Volume powder – literally using a powder brush.
