Location, Location star Kirsty Allsopp devastated as she announces father's death - 'We loved you so much'

Kirstie Allsopp has paid tribute to her her auctioneer dad after announcing her heartbreak at his death earlier this week. The Location, Location, Location presenter said her 83-year-old dad Baron Charles Henry Allsopp, was the "best" of his generation and she was "so proud" to have been his daughter.

The businessman and antiques expert was the sixth Baron Hindlip and educated at Eton College before serving in the Coldstream Guards from 1959 until 1963, when he moved to work at Christie's, one of the world's most prestigious antique and fine-art auction houses.

Kirstie, 52, posted a photograph of her dad doing what he loved and wrote an emotional caption alongside it which said: “This is my Dad, Charlie Hindlip, he was a great auctioneer, the best of his generation, an artist, a gardener, a father of four, and grandfather of eight, a loving husband to a wife he lost too soon."

She continued: "“He was a real star, he worked hard, played hard and went further than anyone ever expected. He died at home yesterday, surrounded by love, flowers and photographs, in a house he built, looking out over a stunning garden he created from scratch. I have been so proud to be his daughter all my life, and will be until the day I die. Bless you Dad, we loved you so much."

Kirstie's moving post attracted a huge number of comments and reactions, including one from her Location, Location, Location co-host Phil Sencer. The pair have been fronting the popular Channel 4 house-hutning show since May 2000 and it's now into its 41st series.

Paying his respects to her late dad, Phil wrote: "What a hugely talented and charismatic man your dear Dad was - a proper legend of his time. He really did live an extraordinary life. Sending all of you masses and masses of love and strength. Xxx"

Fellow property expert and presenter George Clarke, known for the Channel 4 series Amazing Spaces, added his own condolences, writing: "I’m so sorry for your loss Kirstie … but what a beautiful beautiful words about him. Sending you the biggest hugs and mountains of love. George xxxxx".

Kirstie lost her mum - Lady Fiona Hindlip - in 2014 following a 26-year battle with breast cancer. She was given her first diagnosis in 1987 and eventually died at 66 at the family's Dorset home.

Charles and Fiona were also parents to Kirstie's siblings, fellow TV presenter Sophie Allsopp, art dealer Henry William Allsopp, who is the seventh Baron Hindlip, and Natasha. In 2013, Kirstie's sister Sophie, who hosted the television show The Unsellables on HGTV in Canada, revealed she'd undergone a preventive mastectomy after witnessing her mum battling the disease for so many years.

Explaining her decision, she said afterwards: "I have spent my life watching my mother struggle with breast cancer, worried that I might lose her. So, for me, it was a very simple, logical decision to remove a part of my body which could potentially kill me."
