The quiz master is on holiday, but never fear, he left behind a precious document containing 14 questions for your entertainment. They cover general knowledge and topical trivia, with a handful of silly jokes, a hidden reference to Doctor Who, some irritating anagrams, and always a picture of the magical Kate Bush. Solutions

1:A - It is Jesy, who was born in June 1991 and so is 30 years old. The others are all still in their late 20s. Jesy left the band late last year because she needed a break for her health., 2:C - He did adopt the other three, but not Caligula, who was son of the Roman general Germanicus and Augustus’s granddaughter Agrippina the Elder. Augustus had, of course, been adopted as a son by Julius Caesar, and in turn he was succeeded by Tiberius whom he had adopted., 3:A - Madness commercially released The Prince in 1979 on 2 Tone, which reached No 16 in the UK chart, before the band moved on to other labels. The early Bad Manners singles came out on Magnet. In a twist that is sure to bring out the pedants, 2 Tone *did* press a single by Elvis Costello, but contractual issues meant it remained unreleased, and the version of I Can’t Stand Up For Falling Down that hit the charts came out on the F-Beat label so it doesn't count because the question specifically said “commercially released”. Lip up fatty, as Buster Bloodvessel would say. Kate did not make any ska records, although she did do a sort of reggae version of Elton John’s Rocket Man for some reason., 4:B - It’s false. They are called a clutch. A pod is a group of dolphins. It’s also some hideous jargon in creative management structure you see a lot on LinkedIn. “Yes, Quentin, we use a pod matrix management structure now at the agency.”, 5:D - It is off the north-west coast of Haiti, which is currently recovering from the devastating 7.2-magnitude quake, which struck it on Saturday., 6:B - The Maryland Terrapins, known as the Terps, consist of 19 men’s and women’s teams that represent the University of Maryland., 7:C - Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino was an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance. His work is admired for its clarity of form. Raphael, the teenage mutant ninja turtle, however, was really good at punching stuff., 8:D - It’s Jarvis Cocker of course – different class. Your other options were Ian Broudie of the Lightning Seeds (Bin Our Idea), Damon Albarn of Blur (Random Banal) and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead (Enjoy On Wronged), 9:B - One or more protons are present in the nucleus of every atom, and they have a positive electric charge. They are, it says here, composite particles composed of three valence quarks, which is about where my understanding of atomic structure peters out., 10:A - In the Detective Pokémon movie, one character attempts to befriend a Cubone, complimenting it that not everyone can pull off wearing the skull of a dead relative as an accessory. This is going to be a new recurring Thursday quiz round every couple of weeks which the quiz master’s eight-year-old helped write. You might want to do some Pokémon revision., 11:A - The chair of judges, Peter Florence, said: “Our consensus was that it was our decision to flout the rules and divide this year’s prize to celebrate two winners. These are two books we started not wanting to give up and the more we talked about them the more we treasured both of them and wanted them both as winners.”, 12:B - Derrida did not move to Paris until 1949, and was one of the leading figures of “deconstruction”, an approach to understanding the relationship between text and meaning., 13:C - The Jacobite army eventually progressed south into England as far as Derby, but as promised support failed to materialise, ultimately had to retreat., 14:B - Yes, that's Polly Sherman, Major Gowen and Manuel. Did you know that in the Spanish dub of Fawlty Towers they changed Manuel’s nationality to Italian? As a reminder the quiz format is one question light while the quiz master is away. One day the fifteenth question will come back. Yes, it shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties.
