One happy user of the product wrote: "I bought this as a newspaper review mentioned it could be used to tame unruly hair but it arrived the same day that I was bitten by an insect. Judging by the size of the bite, it was an army of soldier ants. I put tea tree oil on it and it seemed to help but a few hours later it was making its presence known again so I tried this pawpaw ointment and it also helped.

"I noticed, as another reviewer did, that it's ninety-six-percent Vaseline but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's ineffective. The Vaseline soothes away any dryness whilst the pawpaw presumably has an antibacterial effect."

Another said: "My first tube of this I got from a friend who brought it back as a gift from Australia. I accepted it with a 'uhh, thanks?' but I did not yet appreciate how amazing this stuff is. It works on scratches, bug bites, scabs, blisters, dry skin, razor burn, everythingggggg.

"I carry a tube everywhere for that very reason. I have intermittently severe eczema and in a pinch, this will provide relief."

While many people carry the balm as an everyday lip balm, Lucas' Papaw Remedies says its ointment has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties and can be used topically to treat minor burns, sunburn, cuts and minor open wounds, nappy rash and chafing, insect bits and splinters - genius!

There's a larger, 75g tub available for £12.45 for those who wouldn't want to run out of the highly praised balm during their travels.

Many users of the ointment also report temporary relief of the symptoms of dermatitis and eczema.

Whether you're travelling with kids or on a couples' getaway, this little tube could be the answer to less itching on your next trip!
