Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure generally keeps her private life to herself, however the 37-year-old has now revealed a hilarious story about her engagement to fellow actor, Jonny Owen. After dating for eight years, the couple got engaged on Christmas Day in 2017 but it didn’t all go smoothly.

Speaking to The Nottingham Post, she said: "He got the ring, then met his mates, and it was Christmas time, obviously, because we got engaged on Christmas Day. And he got absolutely wasted and was like, 'I've got this expensive ring in my pocket'. So he gave it to the barman who put it in the safe."

After a night of heavy drinking, Jonny then proceeded to totally forget about the diamond in the safe and left the bar to head home to the couple’s Nottingham house.

Thankfully, not all was lost however.

Vicky explained: “And then he remembered and got the tram back. Yeah, he made it. It made it in one piece.”

Vicky has revealed that plans to get married have been put on hold during lockdown and that they might have to elope to the famous runaway-wedding spot, Gretna Green, in Scotland.

Talking on The Graham Norton Show, she said: “We haven't even booked it.

“I'd marry him tomorrow, but we've never got around to cementing the plan. We will probably end up at Gretna Green!”.

Fingers crossed with lockdown set to lift fully in the summer, they will be able to have their dream day soon enough.
