Lily James just wore a Mango midi dress, and we reckon it will be a sell-out

Run, don't walk, high-flyer-cum-high-street-champion Lily James just set our hearts ablaze with her recent budget buy.

The Pam & Tommy star is a force to be reckoned with in the red carpet department – awards season has proven that much – but she has since come through with a look that won't break the bank, and we are head over heels.

The 33-year-old stepped out in London on Monday wearing a sleeveless midi dress by Spanish high street stalwarts Mango. Following her recent split with musician Michael Shuman, the actress appeared to be in excellent spirits as she shared a laugh with Alexa Chung's ex Orson Fry outside illustrious private members club, and A-list adored haunt Groucho. The lustrous satin piece, imbued with an elegant off-white hue, featured a soft round neckline, gathered shaping details at the waist and this season's hottest skin-baring detail: a thigh-high split.

At this year's Academy Awards, the most unexpected fashion trend to emerge was a single leg on display. The likes of Cara Delevingne, Florence Pugh and Nicole Kidman all went hard for glitzy thigh-splits (Angelina Jolie could never have predicted the lasting impact of her iconic 2012 number), and it appears that this season, Lily is shifting the trend from the red carpet to the streets.

Spring dressing lends itself perfectly to lighter, flowy fabrics and Lily is a case in point. Layering was on the agenda for the What's Love Got to Do with It actress, and she teamed her high shine dress with a glossy leather maxi coat and matching knee-high boots for an added sense of sultry.

Keeping things light this season is key, and we recommend the use of layers to create a sense of depth. Flowy satins and airy sheers are everywhere right now – try a delicate cami or a slinky midi skirt to enact your own personal spin on the feather light fabric trend.

As for our affordable fashion queen Lily? We salute you.
