Lily Collins has addressed backlash over Emily In Paris for the first time, admitting that she found the public criticism difficult, but sees it as an opportunity to move the character forward.

ICYMI, since Emily In Paris launched it has had fans divided, with some accusing the showing of playing to stereotypical French cliches.

However, just like her character, Lily is staying positive. Speaking in a new interview with Vogue Arabia, the actress admitted: "As disheartening as it sometimes is to read these things, it’s also a gift; you’re being allowed to improve."

She also said that if the show is commissioned for another series she hopes to "evolve the narrative", while adding that the producers: "Championed my opinions and opened me up to an experience that was so rewarding and empowering."

Lily's response comes after actor Lucas Bravo, who played Gabriel (as if you didn't know) responded to criticism by kind of agreeing with it.

"I think they're right, in a way," he explained when asked about comments from French critics. "We're portraying cliches and we're portraying one single vision of Paris. Paris is one of the most diverse cities in the world. We have so many ways of thinking, so many different nationalities, so many different neighbourhoods. A lifetime wouldn't be enough to know everything that's going on in Paris.

However, the show's producer Darren Star told The Hollywood Reporter that he was "not sorry for looking at Paris through a glamorous lens.

"The first thing she is seeing is the clichés because it's from her point of view," he explained. "I wanted to do a show that celebrated that part of Paris."

We can't wait to see a more wise version of Emily in season two.
