Ricky Gervais’ Netflix series After Life has received praise from critics and fans alike, who’ll no doubt be pleased that a second season is on the way this April.
Speaking about the commission when it was announced, Gervais said:
“I have never had a reaction like this before. It’s been insane. And heartwarming. But now I have to make sure the second season is even better so I’ll probably have to work much harder than usual. Annoying really.”
Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix added:
“After Life has moved audiences from laughter to tears around the world and we are thrilled to announce that Ricky Gervais will be back with a second season on Netflix. We are so proud to play host to Ricky’s brilliant stand up comedy, specials, original films and series and join in the joy of the fans with his latest hit.”
After Life season 2: What’s it about?
Series one centred on Tony (Gervais), a man whose perfect life was changed forever when his wife Lisa died. Her death sparked a change in Tony and after contemplating taking his own life, he decided instead to punish the world around him by saying and doing whatever he felt like.
Series one ended with the possibility that Tony might be open to finding love again, so expect this side of his life to be explored in season two.
Netflix has announced that in series 2 "whilst still struggling with immense grief for his wife, we see Tony try to become a better friend to those around him. Each grappling with their own problems and only to be intensified by the looming threat of the local newspaper being shut down.
"Will the town’s local Am-Dram show lift everyone’s spirits?"
