Watch: Liam Payne 'closer than ever' to Cheryl and son Bear
Liam Payne is "closer than ever" to ex-girlfriend Cheryl and their four-year-old son Bear.
The former One Direction singer has opened up about his co-parenting relationship with Cheryl, who he split from in 2018 after two years of dating, and said it was "really, really nice" that they were able to get along during a "difficult" year.
"Cheryl is literally the best person to co-parent with. No stress involved. It's very, very relaxed, and we spend a lot of time on FaceTime. And it's been really lovely, and I'm closer to them than I've ever been before, actually, which is really, really nice," Liam told Glamour, adding that he makes sure he video calls Bear before bed.
"But bedtime FaceTime can go really well sometimes. Or I bought him some toys yesterday that I showed them on the FaceTime and it was like I had to go and travel over and hand the toys over the fence!" he laughed.
Liam and Cheryl began dating in 2016 and welcomed son Bear Grey Payne in March 2017. However, they split in 2018, and Liam is now engaged to model Maya Henry, who he said has been a "great support" to him while co-parenting with the Girls Aloud star.
Back in 2019, Liam confessed becoming a father at the age of 23 "spooked" him, and he struggled to accept his new role.
"Becoming a dad at such a young age, it's such a difficult thing. And I think I built fatherhood up so much in my head that it kind of messed me up to start with. I started in a bad place with it," he said during the documentary Ant Middleton & Liam Payne: Straight Talking.
"I think it spooked me out early on, and I was just worried I would not be enough to look after the both of them," Liam added.
