Liam Payne has addressed Jesy Nelson's exit from Little Mix and sent his love to Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, who plan to power on as a trio. On Monday, the singer released a statement revealing she had left the band after nine years to focus on her mental health.

Speaking about Jesy's decision during a TikTok Live with fans on Wednesday, he first compared it to Zayn's departure from One Direction in 2015, saying Jesy had "Zayn'd out" before quickly adding "no, no. let's be serious about this."

The solo star went on, "It's always sad at this moment in time when bands get into that sort of thing. Having been there myself, I felt that Zayn left for pretty much the same reason in a weird way."

He added, "I wish Jesy all the best. I wish the girls all the best for carrying on as a three. It's a tough time and I do feel for them because everyone is watching in that little fishbowl at the moment and no one really understands what's going on or how it feels for some people."

When Zayn left 1D, he told fans he wanted to be a "normal" 22-year-old "who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight."

Jesy broke the news to fans via social media in a heartfelt post saying she had the "most incredible time of my life" in the band, but needed to prioritise her wellbeing.

Jesy's bandmates, Perrie, Jade and Leigh-Anne, also shared a statement in support of Jesy, adding that they would continue to make music together as a trio. On Instagram they wrote, "This is an incredibly sad time for all of us but we are fully supportive of Jesy. We love her very much and agree that it is so important that she does what is right for her mental health and wellbeing."

We're wishing Jesy all the best as she plans her new life away from the band.
