If you're a celebrity looking to take your relationship public, there is probably no better time than the Oscars. Which was probably the thought process behind Leonardo DiCaprio and his girlfriend Camila Morrone's first official public appearance at last night's Academy Awards.
The pair have been dating since December 2017, after being reunited at the Cannes Film Festival about six months prior. You'll notice I say reunited, because they're actually old family friends. They first met when Camila was 12, (which was, ahem, 10 years ago) through Camila's then stepdad and Leo's friend, Al Pacino. Before striking up a relationship years later.
But as is Leo's custom, they haven't appeared publicly together at any events or walked any red carpets as a couple. As a general rule of thumb, Leo's public acknowledgements of girlfriends tend to be reserved for yachts, and these two have always been particularly private.
Meaning that this appearance really is quite a big deal. Here they are, sitting together in the front row for all the world to see.
And here's another of the pair close-up after Brad Pitt (who has rebranded as awards season funny guy) gave Leo a shout-out in his acceptance speech.
Of course, he still walked the red carpet solo - we get it, lone wolves walk in baby steps. But in celebrity terms going from pap pictures of cavorting on yachts to actual official public outings is a big deal.
Although, I still wouldn't hold your breath for Miley and Cody PDA levels.
