In September 2021, Girls star Lena Dunham revealed that she and musician boyfriend Luis Felber got married in secret after less than a year together. Given how loved up these two have been on Instagram over the last few months, we should probably have seen this coming, but it was big and adorable news nonetheless. So, we've taken a look back at the couple's relationship history, from how they met to the present day - beginning with the most recent update.

29 September 2021 - Lena and Luis share a photo from their wedding

After reports revealed that Lena and Luis had tied the knot in September, Lena confirmed the news herself on Instagram by sharing an adorable picture from the couple's big day.

Announcing their wedding date as 25 September 2021, Lena added the caption, "9*25*21 - that’s how she became the nanny..." - a reference to the theme song for US sitcom The Nanny.

The sweet picture shows Lena and Luis holding hands and smiling while dressed in their wedding outfits, and the whole affair looks super cool. We can see Lena in a high-neck lace white dress with a veil from Christopher Kane, while Luis looks to be wearing a fairly casual blue denim jacket from Bode.

Famous friends were of course quick to congratulate Lena on the news, with Lily Collins writing, "Ahhh yeahhhhhyyyyyy!!! So so happy for you both 😍😍😍😍😍" and Poppy Delevingne adding, "Woop WOOOOOP!!!!!! 🙌🏽❤️🙌🏽".

Congratulations to the happy couple.

Here's the rest of Lena and Luis's relationship timeline...

April 2021:

Lena confirmed her relationship with Luis during an interview with The New York Times back in April, not long after they were set up on their blind date.

"It's been a few months. I feel really lucky," she said, adding that Felber was, "the greatest person I've ever met."

She also shared a clip of his latest song on her Instagram, referring to him as her "love."

June 2021:

On Luis's birthday a few months later, Lena shared a series of pictures of the pair together along with an adorable caption which read;

"Feliz Cumpleanos Luis 💕 When I was 3 weeks old in downtown Manhattan, I had no idea a baby was being born in England (Winchester, no less!) who would rocket into my life - wearing a lime green polar fleece snood- and challenge so many of my beliefs about myself and the world with magical abandon. Everyone who comes into contact with you - creatively, emotionally, accidentally - is lucky. But I am the luckiest, because that snood is now in our shared chest of drawers. 'The warmth of your love is like the warmth of the sun and this will be our year, took a long time to come..' Happy Birthday, Lulu."

August 2021:

Lena and Luis spent a bit of time in the UK at London's All Points East festival, where Luis was performing under his stage name Attawalpa. Lena not only wore an incredible tracksuit but also posted an adorable series of pictures of the couple's day at the festival.

September 2021:

Sources at People reveal actor and writer Lena and musician Luis tied the knot after less than a year of dating in a ceremony one weekend in September. Though the pair later confirmed the news themselves, Luis previously appeared to hint at the news the morning after the wedding, posting an Instagram Story accompanied by the song "This Will Be Our Year" by the Zombies, captioned with heart and alien emojis.

September 2021:

During an interview with The New York Times Luis revealed a slightly awkward detail about his first date with Lena; that despite the fact she is "the voice of a generation" he didn't actually know who she was when they met.

The pair were set up on a blind date through a mutual friend in London a few months ago and while Luis said that the first time they met they instantly hit it off, "we didn't stop talking for, like, eight hours," he also revealed that he hadn't heard of Lena Dunham or any of her work.

"[My] mum was a fan of Girls," Luis shared. "I remember when I was touring in my 20s, my mum and my sister were watching that show. But I never watched it.

When asked if he'd seen the series since Luis replied that he still hasn't, but that he has caught up with some of Lena's current work; "I watched Industry when we first started dating, and I scored her next film, Sharp Stick, which is out next year. It’s a really beautiful film."
