If the news of Margot Robbie starring in a live-action film about Barbie had you squealing with excitement, then wait until you hear what Lily Collins and Lena Dunham have up their sleeves.

Deadline reports the Girls co-creator will soon produce a film about Polly Pocket under her production company Good Thing Going. Meanwhile Collins will star as the young girl who makes friend with the tiny toy.

Here's everything you need to know about the Polly Pocket film:

What have Lily Collins and Lena Dunham said about Polly Pocket?

Collins couldn’t help but share the news of her and Dunham’s collaboration by posting a photograph of herself on Instagram as a child standing inside a pink Polly Pocket case.

'Little Lil, big news. As a child who was obsessed with Polly Pockets, it's a real dream come true to announce this project!' Lily announced in the caption. 'I am partnering with the most inspiring powerhouse team — Robbie Brenner, @lenadunham, @mattel and @mgmstudios — to reintroduce Polly to the world in a fun, modern way… bringing these tiny toys to the big screen,' she captioned the post on Thursday, June 24.

Speaking about the project, Dunham noted: ‘Polly Pocket was responsible for countless hours of childhood escapism for me – Polly gave me a tiny world of magic and autonomy to narrate, so it’s pretty poetic to be tackling these same ideas now as a director collaborating with the brilliant Lily Collins, Robbie Brenner, Mattel and MGM.

‘I’m so thrilled to bring to bear both my love of this historic property and also my deep-seated belief that young women need smart playful films that speak to them without condescension.’

What is Polly Pocket?

It’s hard to believe that Polly Pocket is a toy brand that’s been around for over 30 years. Previously owned by Bluebird Toys in the UK, the first Polly Pocket toys appeared in shops in 1989.

Mattel later purchased the brand which included a doll and plastic cases that opened into dollhouses. The brand has had numerous iterations and looks over the years and was developed into a TV series in 2018.

This isn't the first children’s franchise to be taken from playground to the big screen by Mattel, with other projects in the works now including films about Barbie, Barney and Thomas & Friends.

The news comes weeks after Collins returned to the set of her hit Netflix show Emily in Paris to film its second season in France.

Earlier this year the actor received a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Actress TV Series – Musical or Comedy category for the hilarious series.

Is there are Polly Pocket trailer?

No, and we don't expect there will be one for quite some time given we've only just heard the project is in the works.

What is the Polly Pocket film plot?

At this stage, this is anyone's guess, but we imagine it'll involve fashion and friendship if Collin's recent Instagram post is anything to go by.
