Following Sale Sharks’ 21-13 win over Leicester in the Premiership semi-final on Sunday, here are our ratings for Tigers.

Player ratings

15 Freddie Steward: The full-back was solid in the air as always whilst showcasing his carrying ability. Spent a lot of the game covering the backfield and ultimately his impact on the game was reduced. 6

14 Anthony Watson: The explosive wing did not get the opportunity he would have hoped for. However, he looked to make something happen whenever he had the ball in his hands. Outside of beating four defenders, he did not really make a big difference in the game. 5

13 Matthew Scott: A quiet outing and one that the centre had little impact on. With only three tackles and two carries it was an uninspiring performance. 4

12 Dan Kelly: The centre threw a magnificent pass to play Harry Potter in for what could have been a crucial try. Was committed on defence otherwise and neat overall in a solid outing. Possibly could have been more effective in the carry but it was not to be. 6

11 Harry Potter: Scored a good try thanks to a glorious pass. Was relatively quiet otherwise only beating three defenders in a tight clash that did not offer much for the wings out wide. 7

10 Jimmy Gopperth: The veteran stepped in well after being drafted in late for Handre Pollard. However, despite a decent enough outing it was not the inspired showing required to match the Sale playmakers. 5

9 Ben Youngs: Fairly lively before being substituted after failing a HIA. The veteran made a key tackle to prevent Rob du Preez from scoring in the corner but unfortunately injured himself in the process. 5

8 Jasper Wiese: Carried relentlessly as he always does notching up an impressive 14 runs with ball in hand. He also defended fiercely but did not influence the game as much as he would have hoped. 6

7 Tommy Reffell: A master of the breakdown and it showed again as he won three turnovers in the game, including an important one near his line. Made an impressive 16 tackles otherwise in a hard-working shift. 7

6 Hanro Liebenberg: The flank defended with passion, making 11 tackles whilst taking four line-outs in a hard-working performance. Another player who would have liked to find a way to impact the game more. 5

Second-row defensive effort

5 Cameron Henderson: The second-row was a powerful defender on the day making a whopping 14 tackles in his stint on the field. He also took two line-outs and made a decent number of carries. However, he could not influence the match further. 6

4 George Martin: Just like his lock partner was a star on defence with 14 tackles made whilst also operating well in the line-out including a steal off an opposition throw. Could not ask for too much more from the tight forward. 6

3 Dan Cole: The front-row was sin-binned just before half-time in a relatively poor performance. He did not dominate at scrum time with the Sale pack ultimately winning the battle. However, Cole did make seven tackles whilst on the field. 4

2 Julian Montoya: The hooker made 14 tackles in a committed effort but did not have the anticipated influence at the breakdown as he has become renowned for. Not a poor performance but not the one his team needed. 5

1 Tom West: Another star who failed to influence the game in a significant way, making few tackles and carries. The front-row did not make a huge difference at scrum time in a flat effort. 5

Replacements: Jack van Poortvliet made a difference with the pace of play from the ruck and his kicking game but the other substitutes failed to change the game as interim head coach Richard Wigglesworth would have hoped. 6
