Leeds takeaway in rugby club car park serving succulent Mexican dishes that have you shouting 'muy bueno!'
A rugby club car park may seem like a peculiar location for a Mexican takeaway – but Birria Boyz are pulling it off, cooking up succulent dished with a zesty flavour.
Their trailer is parked up in Moortown Rugby Club, which actually happens to be located in the heart of Alwoodley, off a residential street in Moss Valley. They’ve been operating there for about seven months, since March, and it looks to have been a success as they've grown an impressive social media following with more than 15,000 followers on Instagram.
So, we headed down there to see how their tacos, wings and loaded fries shaped up. When I got to the car park, I noticed the cook in the trailer was one of the ‘Birria Boyz’, one of the three young men behind the business, flitting between his kitchen on wheels and the parked cars, bringing their cooked meals over.

His service was very friendly and he was clearly passionate about the food and was happy to explain all the options I could choose from in the Birria Box for 1. The box included a large beef taco, honey sriracha wings, loaded fries, salsa, mayo and a choice of drink, I went with a Dr Pepper, a classic.
It was so good. The crisp chicken just fell off the bone. The sriracha honey sauce providing the perfect balance of sweet and salt. Top class wings.
The loaded fries, blimey, I was in for a treat. The beef along with melted cheese was just delicious, blending with the fries and converging into a satisfying clump perfect for dipping.
It was certainly a messy meal, with lots of sauces to dip the fries, taco or wings into. The beef taco went down very easily. It was golden brown, slightly charred, freshly cooked on the stove while I waited. It was a generously portioned taco with lots of beef, melted cheese, coriander and diced onions.
The tortilla was crisp and the beef tasted succulent, the aromatic taco bursting with warming spices. It had a satisfying crunch while retaining its shape. As the Mexicans would say, muy bueno. It all washed down very nicely with my can of Dr Pepper, as well.
