  • Blue Bloods hasn’t aired a new episode since May 2020, but thankfully, season 11 premieres on Friday, December 4.

  • The cast will be re-joined by Nicky (played by Sami Gayle) and Regina Thomas (played by Whoopi Goldberg), and fans have so many thoughts.

Blue Bloods fans, get excited! Season 11’s big debut is finally here. While many fans can hardly wait for the Friday, December 4, premiere, thanks to the latest trailer, some fans are feeling a little a bit on the fence. The reason? There are two major casting changes happening this season.

EGOT-winner Whoopi Goldberg is returning to the show as City Council Speaker Regina Thomas. While this news might thrill most people—considering Whoopi’s undeniable acting prowess—others feel like it’s too much of a star-studded diversion from the original cast.

Blue Bloods loyalists flocked to the comments to share their thoughts about the season 11 updates. “I love this show very much but cmon really? Whoopi?” one fan wrote, while a few more fans echoed the same sentiments.

"Looking forward to Blue Bloods! I can do without Whoopi," one fan wrote, and another commented, "Love the show...Whoopi, not so much!!!!!"

While many fans were not pleased, a few chimed in with words of confusion or excitement. “Haven’t seen the new seasons, but why the hell is everyone hating on Whoopi,” one Instagram user mused, while another added, "😍😍😍👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Love Blue Bloods!!! Love Whoopi!!! Perfect match!❤️❤️❤️"

Whoopi's return isn’t the only new character that fans are divided on. Sami's character Nicky has been met with equal reactions.

“Ready for the show, pass on Nicky,” one Instagram user wrote. “Keep Nicky, show doesn’t need or miss her. But bring back the Reagans!” another exclaimed.

All dramatic reactions to the returning cast aside, the majority of Blue Bloods fans can hardly contain their excitement that the show is finally back. Given there have been no new episodes since May, it’s safe to say viewers are in for a surprise. The show will be covering current events, including protests and the pandemic.
