Landscape Artist of the Year is back in our screens very soon
It's one of the nation's favourite craft TV shows, and so we're delighted that Landscape Artist of the Year is back with a brand new series, with a release date coming very soon.
Actor and presenter Stephen Mangan will return as the host of the painting competition, which sees budding landscape artists paint the most breathtaking locations across the country.
This year is the tenth series of the show, and the first episode will air tonight, Wednesday 22 January, at 8pm on Sky Arts, Freeview and Now.
The series begins with a series of heats, in which eight budding landscape artists must create a painting of a scene within a four hour time frame. Fifty wildcard contestants will also enter the competition, showing their creativity and technique in each location. The efforts of all the contestants will be judged by award winning portrait artist Tai Shan Schierenberg, curator Kathleen Soriano and art historian Kate Bryan.
The scenes included in the heats are Llanberis Lake at the base of Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon), Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, the grounds of Hampton Court Palace, and the newly redeveloped St. Pancras Basin.
The best artists from the heats will progress to the semi final, in which they will be tasked with capturing Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
In the final, the three remaining artists will travel to Stonehenge, where they will battle it out to be crowned Landscape Artist of the Year.
The winner will receive a £10,000 commission for the prestigious Courtauld Gallery in London and the opportunity to create a landscape in the south of France, following in the footsteps of the Monet, Manet and Van Gogh.
We can't wait to see how this year's contestants fare in the competition!
Landscape Artist on the Year starts on Wednesday 22 January at 8pm on Sky Arts, Freeview and Now.
