Lana Del Rey’s uber chic, laid back style is the talk of the Grazia office this week. The singer released the music video for her new single 'Blue Jeans' and we were mighty impressed to see Lana keeping the fashion frills to a minimum, wearing not a hoard of bonkers dresses, but sticking to a simple white swimsuit. So when Ms LDR rocked up to the ECHO Music Awards in Germany last night, we were happy to see her sticking to her sartorial guns.
Yes, Lana looked effortlessly chic and glamourpuss perfect in a stunning gown from Giorgio Armani’s Spring Summer 2012 collection paired with a Versace pendant necklace and sparkly ballet pumps as she performed ‘Video Games’.
It made a dramatic contrast to Katy Perry’s approach, which was deffers in keeping with her penchant for more daring ensembles. The popstrel arrived at the awards wearing a Paco Rabbane metallic panelled mini-dress that has us remembering the wacktacular Paco Rabbane creations Lady Gaga wore to last year's MTV EMAs.
This space-age theme continued into her performance where K-Pez was seen sporting a rather unuuusual jumpsuit. Yikes! Sorry Katy, as much as we love seeing something a little different, this is just yuck.
So what say you about this battle of the pop babes? Are you a fan of Katy's kooky style or are you more of the less-is-more camp like Lana? One thing's for sure, LDR is shaping up her own style file that's more demure and understated than the current female songstresses (yes, we're talking to you too, Rihanna). Her look for the Echo Awards is reminiscent of the floor-length black gown she wore to perform at the Mulberry dinner during London Fashion Week last month – very ladylike, very elegant. And for a recent performance on American Idol, she chose a more casual-but-cute outfit when she paired a white skirt with a cropped sleeveless shirt and Converse pumps. Yep, this is one lady who won't be sporting multi-coloured icing-bun bras any time soon.
