Victoria Starmer: Who is Sir Keir’s wife?

Keir Starmer made headlines on Tuesday after his speech at the Labour Party’s annual conference was disrupted by a protester.

A 28-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of assault.

Before the conference, the politician had shared that his wife, Victoria, wouldn’t be making an appearance despite the public’s curiosity about the woman who would join him in No 10 should Labour win the next general election.

So who is the Labour leader’s wife?

Who is Lady Starmer?

Lady Starmer grew up in Gospel Oak, north London, where her mother was a community doctor. Like her future husband, Victoria entered a career in law, as a solicitor in her case, and took on a role as a governor at her children’s school. Now, she works in occupational health for the NHS.

She is Jewish and, with her husband, is known to be raising their children according to her faith.

Unlike her husband, Victoria is not public with her political views, seeming to prefer to stay out of the limelight.

She made her first public appearance at Labour’s 2021 party conference in Brighton when she accompanied her husband off the stage following his first full conference speech as party leader.

The pair have been married since 2007, which was a year before Sir Keir became head of the Crown Prosecution Service, eight years before hebecame an MP and 13 years before he became Labour leader.

Starmer and Victoria met sometime in the early 2000s, in the course of their work as lawyers, when Victoria drafted documents for a case Starmer was working on during his time as a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers.

On their first date, Sir Keir took his future wife to the Lord Stanley pub, in Camden.

Today, although the couple are private about their lives, they are known to have two children, a teenager named Toby and a younger daughter. The family live in a £1.75 million Camden townhouse in Starmer’s Holborn and St Pancras constituency.
