Labour MP calls Prince George's £150 jumpers 'outrageous'
Last week, Labour MP for Kensington and Chelsea, Emma Dent Coad, hit headlines for calling the Duchess of Cambridge’s shopping habits “disgusting”. Now, further comments from the same rant have come to attention with the MP hitting out at Prince George‘s wardrobe too.
Describing herself as the royal family’s “worst nightmare”, Dent Coad was heard saying: “When Prince George goes to school, they [the media] look at his jumpers and, you know, £150 for a jumper, that’s a food bill for a family of four for a lot of people and that’s outrageous and people are outraged by that.”

She was forced to post a statement defending her anti-royal viewpoint. “On Monday I made a joke. It has been taken the wrong way. Can we look at the real issues facing us now?” she wrote on Twitter.
She went on to say how she was ashamed that the government had managed to find £300 million to restore Buckingham Palace but victims of the Grenfell Tower fire “have been abandoned in pokey hotel rooms for 15 weeks because there are no homes available for them.”
“People are angry. I’m angry too. And I will highlight these issues loud, clear and often until they are addressed.”
The royal family are currently funded through various private and public means. As well as the Queen’s own personal wealth, a Sovereign Grant is given directly from the treasury.
A lot of people, however, disagreed with the MP’s statement. “I’m not a monarchist but what you said was childish and petty,” replied one person. “Your comments were disgraceful. At least do the right thing and apologise!” said another.

I’m not a monarchist but what you said was childish and petty and inevitably detracts from your credibility on anything else. Poor judgement
