Kym Marsh has opened up about her worries for her army boyfriend serving in the Middle East as the area becomes increasingly unstable.
The former Coronation Street star – who recently left her role as Michelle Connor in the soap – was a guest on Good Morning Britain on Monday and spoke about her concerns for partner Scott Ratcliffe, a major in the Parachute Regiment.
Ratcliffe, 32, is currently on a six-month tour of Afghanistan, but the pair were able to spend Christmas together before he was deployed.
Marsh, 42, told GMB host Piers Morgan: “I was worried anyway but obviously that worry has increased given what is going on.”
Tensions are building as the Irag parliament has called for US troops to leave the country, but Trump has threatened severe sanctions if they are forced out.
Meanwhile, Boris Johnson has just released a joint statement with Germany's Angela Merkel and France's Emmanuel Macron on Sunday night urging restraint on all sides, having previously stayed quiet on the subject as he refused to cut short his Caribbean holiday.
Before recent events, Marsh had written in her OK! magazine column about her anxiety at Ratcliffe being sent away, and had given interviews about the stress of him being overseas.
She had previously told The Sun: “There may not be an actual war threat currently but there’s always a risk when you’re in these dangerous places.
“It won’t be easy watching him go away, and I will worry until I see him again.”
Marsh and Ratcliffe were introduced by her Corrie co-star Antony Cotton in 2018 and have been dating since then.
In 2019, Marsh welcomed her first grandchild when her daughter Emilie gave birth to a baby boy.
