If you've been on Instagram for even a second this week, you've likely seen Kylie Jenner's already infamous 2022 Met Gala look. The wedding dress x baseball cap outfit has basically dominated social media this week, with many fans sharing their not-so-keen opinions on the whole thing. Well, now Kylie herself has responded to the backlash with a new video posted on YouTube.

For the first year ever all the Kardashian-Jenners were invited to the Met Gala and it was a pretty big deal. Especially given there were a number of big names not in attendance this year, the 2022 event basically became a Kar-Jenner takeover. Which is probably one of the reasons people were expecting such big things from all their looks.

However, when the sisters appeared on the red carpet people were pretty quickly unimpressed by Kylie's look, and in an instant the backlash began, with fans saying the whole thing was a swing and a miss.

Well, now Kylie has posted a lengthy video on her YouTube channel, taking viewers behind the scenes in the weeks and hours before the event. In the footage Kylie clarifies her reasons for wearing the dress - to honour her late friend and fashion designer Virgil Abloh - and explains that ultimately, she doesn't really care what anyone else thinks.

"To be honest, I decided really last minute I wasn't gonna go," she said. "I was like 'Unless I can go and honour Virgil [Abloh]', and [his wife] Shannon would want me to go and I would wear Off-White, then that's the only reason I would go today. To honour him."

She explained that she and Virgil were due to be at the Met Gala together back in 2020 so wearing his brand for her first appearance at the event felt like something she was meant to do.

"I feel like I was supposed to go with Off-White because Virgil and I talked about this for the last two years. I was supposed to go with him in 2020, so it feels right that my Met come back I’m going with Off-White for sure."

Explaining why she had wanted to do something unlike her usual style she added, "Every year I've worn some type of tight mermaid dress, so this year I wanted to just wear something big, do something different."

Finally, she said that ultimately she wasn't going to care what people thought of the look - a comment which says a look when you think this has been posted after the fact.

"It also puts off the pressure of what people think about my look because I love it so much. It’s so much more special to me that I don’t care what people think. It’s very special," she told the camera.

You do you, Kylie.
