Kristin Cavallari is sharing why she chooses to keep her kids' faces off of social media — though she admits that "every year it gets harder to come up with creative ways to hide their faces."

The Uncommon James founder — who shares three children with ex-husband Jay Cutler — relied on a gold foil balloon in the shape cover son Jaxon's face as she celebrated his eighth birthday on May 7. The former Laguna Beach and The Hills star acknowledged that many of her followers "don't get" why she prefers to give Jaxon and his siblings Camden, 9, and Saylor, 6, some privacy online.

"I realize a lot of you don’t get it. I want my kids to make their own decision to be on social media instead of me making it for them," Cavallari, 35, wrote before going on to pay tribute to her middle son.

The reality star got support from many commenters, one of whom wrote, "That’s awesome that you are keeping them more private until they decide. It drives me crazy when parents have Instagrams for their babies."

"I respect you soooo much for allowing it to be your kid’s choice," read another comment.

"They’re your kids, your job to protect and let them make their own choices when it’s age-appropriate!" agreed another fan.

"Your kids, your decision. No one has the right to tell you how to parent your kids," added a follower.

Some commenters did, however, question why Cavallari posts about her children at all — typically showing them from the back or with emojis over their faces — if she's concerned about their privacy. It's a recurring complaint that Cavallari addressed with a tongue-in-cheek post last Thanksgiving, shortly after being mom-shamed for sharing a family photo in which her kids had their backs to the camera.

The defiant mom responded by posing with best friend Justin Anderson and his partner, Austin Rhodes.

"I don’t remember asking for anyone’s opinion but fine, I’ll show my kids," she quipped.
